The Hypnosis Diet

January 7, 2009

hypnosis dietThe Hypnosis Diet is of the idea that almost all diets will fail in time. By reprogramming the mind you can not only increase your willpower to stick to a certain diet but also change the way you eat.

This diet does not have any set in stone rules. There are two main ways to go about reprogramming your mind. Either through self-hypnosis or through recorded affirmations that you listen to.

You are asked to make a list of your diet problems and goals. This list is then sent in to a hypnotherapist which is used to tailor make you a cd with affirmations. There is also a general program that can be used by anyone so you do not have to send in your own list or issues.

You are to listen to the cds a certain number of times per day and the repetitive affirmations are said to start transforming the processes of the brain. Dieters then start becoming the affirmations. You will no longer crave certain foods or have certain issues that have caused you to fail diets in the past.

The Good:
-Results can come quickly
-You learn to control your cravings and confront the issues of your failures

The Bad:
-Can be expensive in relation to the service you get
-Results can be short lived
-Must already have a dieting method picked out and know your shortcomings

I believe the hypnosis diet is not a stand alone option for losing weight. I think its something that should be done in addition to everything else and just as an extra measure. I once bought dieting tapes and noticed no difference. Obviously advances have been made but I think trying to trick the mind is too difficult.

I noticed the majority of my weight loss when I found a diet that felt as if I was not dieting. There are a million diets out there and they all CAN work. The trick is to find a diet that doesn’t even feel like one that you like. Then you don’t need to do any tricky stuff cause it will be easy.

The Master Cleanse Diet

January 6, 2009

master cleanse dietThe Master Cleanse Diet has gotten much praise since its inception but very few people are actually able to complete it.

Not many even get past the first day and even fewer make it to day 3 of the 10 day cleanse.

The Master Cleanse when done right offers great results in not only the cleaning of the insides from toxins but weight loss as well. Although it was almost impossible to finish I was able to get to day 10 and I did feel a great lightness and cleanness with more energy.

The concoction in the cleanse is from pure lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water. You will drink this between 6-12 times a day.

The Good

-Offers almost immediate weight loss
-Cleans your insides
-Is cheap

The Bad

-VERY hard to complete
-You will be VERY hungry
-For most people a good amount of weight is gained back. But not all

The Master Cleanser drink has no fiber, so we recommend using a herbal laxative twice a day. This will help to remove the waste as it is being shed from the colon wall. Otherwise, the waste tends to stay in the body leading to tiredness and other problems. No food is eaten for the 10 days you are on this cleans and some even extend it much longer than 10 days.

Here Are The Exact Ingredients That You Mix And Drink

-2 tbsp lemon or lime juice (1/2 lemon)
-2 tbsp of pure grade B maple syrup
-1/10 tsp cayenne pepper (red) or to taste
-12 oz of purified water (very warm)

The Zone Diet

the zone diet bookThe zone diet stresses insulin production as a major factor in weight loss. In another words, eating foods that trigger an insulin spike are not good. And this is true because the triggering or spiking of insulin can lead to fat storage. This spike in insulin also leads to increased risk of heart disease and diabetes.

The Good:
-Cost Effective
-You learn portion control which is a big factor in overweight people
-The restricted foods list is not as large as some
-Provides more "intuitive" healthy eating structure

The Bad:
-Like most calorie restrictive diets it can be very hard to follow without a lot of discipline
-Diet can be complicated to follow because of the strict rule of 40/30/30
-Time consuming and can be very inconvenient for the people of today’s world

The diet follows a forty/thirty/thirty structure.
40% - Carbs
30% - Fats
30% - Proteins

The Zone Diet is VERY specific about foods you are allowed to eat in order to keep your insulin in check. Processed foods are eliminated because of the empty calories they contain. Candy, sweets and especially commonly eaten foods such as white flour, breads, noodles and any other heave starches are to be avoided. A traditional 3 meals and 2 snacks is followed while on this diet. Each meals follows the 40/30/30 structure.

Sample Zone Diet Meal Plan

Breakfast:
6 egg whites, 1 ounce lean Canadian bacon
1 slice whole grain bread, 1 c. strawberries, ¼ c. melon
4 tsp. slivered almonds

Lunch:
4 ounces cooked chicken breast
celery (no limit)
4 tsp. light mayonnaise

Afternoon Snack:
1 ounce turkey
½ cup grapes
1 tbs. guacamole

Dinner:
6 ounces turkey breast meat
1 cup steamed broccoli
4 tsp. almonds

Bedtime snack:
1 ounce turkey breast meat
1 cup of strawberries
Small handful peanuts

The Sonoma Diet

January 3, 2009

The Sonoma diet plan is very similar to the south beach diet. One new spin is the emphasis put on preparing and combining different foods. If you don’t enjoy cooking or trying new things it may not be for you. It does keep the diet from getting boring especially where they are very restrictive on foods and calorie intake.

This diet plan is broken up into what they call "waves", much like South Beaches "phases".

Wave 1 - This lasts approximately 2 weeks and you are restructuring the way your body manages food. Like south beach your body undergoes a sort of purging where it gets rid of all the fat, calories and sugars in your body. People tend to lose a good deal of weight in this phase because it is so drastic and limiting on foods and calories. Calorie intake is VERY low in this stage (around 900-1300 for women and men)!

Wave 2 - In this phase there are not near as many restrictions except on high fat or calorie foods. You stay in this phase until you are at your goal weight. You are taught portion control and to eat slower so you know when you are not overeating.

Wave 3 - This is basically a maintenance stage. You are taught how to maintain your weight and eat foods that will not make you gain the weight back. They teach you neat little tricks like using smaller plates so psychologically you think you are eating a lot. It actually works to. Although I did not use this diet I did take that trick and still apply it successfully today.

The Good:
-Very step by step system to follow
-Web site offers support
-MANY varities of foods to be cooked and prepared with other foods
-IF you can make it through the first phase you usually notice drastic weight loss

The Bad:
-Calories are VERY restrictive during the first phase
-Large list of banned foods
-Not a diet for a very active person or athlete
-Vegetables are limited because of the high starch

Subway Diet

After Jared lost over 200lbs eating Subway sandwiches this diet has attracted a large following. I think this diet may have been a great thing in relation to what Jared WAS eating. Its no mystery that someone who is SEVERYLY overweight is going to lose weight if he eats even moderately healthy.

I’m sure he would have lost a lot of weight just by eating 2 of the lower calorie/carb McDonalds meals. Should we all go on the McDonalds diet?

What Did Jared Really Eat?
Lunch - Jared ate a six inch subway for lunch. These were sandwiches with no mayo, oil or cheese. He also had a bag of baked lay’s with each meal.

Dinner - For dinner Jared would eat a foot long veggie. Again no oil mayo or cheese.

Ok so what do we have here?We have a 400 pound man that went from eating god knows what to a daily calorie intake of probably less than 1500 calories! OF COURSE you will lose weight.

I believe a few good things did come out of the subday diet craze. Subway did start offering even more healthy options and it also prompted other restaurants to start offering healthier choices. I think the subway diet should be evaluated for what it is. It is not a diet solution.

Will you lose weight if you are 500 pounds eating like crap and then go down to 1500 calories of veggies and healthy sandwiches. Of course you will.

What I really think subway is good for is people that are traveling a lot or on the road quite a bit and cant cook every meal at home. They offer very healthy sandwiches and lots of options for someone that is trying to watch what they eat.

The South Beach Diet

south beach dietThe South Beach diet combines parts of the Atkins, Zone and the Protein Power diet and puts it into a fairly easy to follow 3 phase plan. It can at times be quite restrictive but the dieter learns to basically purge their craving for carbs and sugars.

Phase 1: Length - 14 Long & Hard Days
This is the most strict of all phases. It is basically bringing your body back to a base. At this stage you are ridding your body of all processed sugars. Bread, fruits, sugar snacks, rice and pastas are all forbidden during phase 1.The reason this phase is 14 days is because of the theory that it takes 14 days to break a habit and in this 14 days you also will supposedly no be craving sugar. When I did this diet I was still craving sugar after 14 days just as much! I did notice that It was getting easier to discipline myself from not having them though.

Phase 2: Length - Until desired weight is reached
For those that make it through the first two weeks (and many cannot) phase 2 is much easier. Foods that were not allowed in the first phase are gradually allowed to be integrated back into your diet. You are taught to use portion control and your body learns to handle sugars better.

Phase 3: Length - as long as you want
This is where you maintain your diet. When you are in phase 3 you should be at your goal weight so you learn to eat foods that will maintain your weight but also not make you FEEL as if you are on a hardcore diet. You are still encouraged to cook meals that are low in carbohydrates. If you love pasta or potatoes you are pretty much out of luck.

The Good:
-Gradual 3 step process is easy to follow and gives you a plan of attack
-You notice semi quick weight loss which keeps you motivated
-The South Beach Diet book contains recipes for each of the 3 phases
-Exercise is not advocated or needed to notice weight loss

The Bad:
-If you aren’t a big veggie or meat eater it will be VERY hard during the first two weeks
-Can be expensive
-The list of restricted foods can be quite large
-Carb loves BEWARE

For those that can’t afford a nutritionist or personal trainer telling them EXACTLY what to cook and eat this can be a great diet that puts you through 3 well regimented phases and tells you exactly what you can and cannot eat. The only downside is it is VERY restrictive on carbs and can get expensive with some of the pricey meats.
